The decade of the 1920s was an exciting time. It was the start of the Jazz Age, a time for inventions, economic prosperity, and carefree living for many. (Did you know that the bulldozer, the instant camera, the garbage disposal, and the electric razor, just to name a few, were invented in the 1920s?) This confidence, among other things, led to the Art Deco movement.
Art Deco and the New Decade
The Art Deco movement was truly modernism turned into fashion and architecture. It represented the epitome of luxury, glamour, and elegance. Often when one thinks of the 1920s, the image of rich colors and bold geometric shapes — the iconic symbols of Art Deco — come to mind. We anticipate that this will be the same for 2020.
In fact, the design trends for the new decade are in many ways, reminiscent of the Art Deco movement of the 1920s. We anticipate seeing bold colors and shapes, as well as the use of mixed metals to create a luxurious look. Ultra-modern appliances, cabinetry and counter tops with bronze and gold details will be prevalent; very retro glamour.
As we approach this next decade, all of us at Lita Dirks & Co. are excited to see how these trends, and design in general, evolves. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see our design trends in action.
