Shinn, Jr., Ph.D. and Emma Shinn, CPA, have been honored with the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) 2025 Exemplary Service to Home Building Award. This prestigious accolade recognizes individuals who have made outstanding and commendable contributions to the housing industry.
The award was presented during the 2025 Spring Leadership Meetings on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at the National Housing Center in Washington, D.C. NAHB Chairman, Buddy Hughes, a home builder and developer from Lexington, N.C., said, “Chuck and Emma Shinn’s legacy in the home building industry is unparalleled. The work they have done has helped many leading builders weather the ups and downs in the industry. To this day, their influence continues to drive innovation, excellence and profitability for builders and manufacturers across the country.”
With five decades of dedication to the home building industry, Chuck and Emma Shinn have been instrumental in enhancing management standards and profitability for builders across North America. Their leadership at the Shinn Group has provided invaluable services in areas such as general management, production, purchasing, sales and marketing, finance, and corporate strategy. Emma, a CPA with an MBA in accounting from American University – where she and Chuck met – has a unique talent for demystifying complex financial concepts, making them accessible to professionals at all levels.
“Our careers of service to homebuilders and the housing industry began 57 years ago when I joined the NAHB,” says Chuck. “Emma joined me two years later. Over the years, we have served NAHB as chairmen of numerous standing and special committees. Throughout our professional careers, we have been management researchers, coaches, educators and trainers for the housing industry and private homebuilders.”
Emma Shinn added, “It has been an exciting ride with extraordinary results. We started working in the home building industry when it was but a cottage industry with no management systems. It has been rewarding to see the industry transform into a leading sector of the economy with many successful stories, and be able to say we have been a part of the success!”
