The Problem: Preparing your homes to meet the fast-growing demand for electric vehicle charging.
Homebuyers also happen to be drivers. And it’s no longer a question of if drivers will go electric, but when.

To ensure your homes are suited to the needs of EV drivers (current or future), it’s important to understand the options and realities of at-home EV charging. Currently, there are three levels of EV charging solutions:
  • Level 1 Chargers: Uses a 120V, 20A (AC) receptacle for power, such as a standard household outlet, to provide an average 4-mile range per hour of charging. Most take more than a day to charge a vehicles battery to full.

  • Level 2 Chargers: Requires a 240V (AC) receptacle for power, similar to what’s used for a dryer outlet, to deliver a 20- to 60-mile range per hour of charging. Their average time to charge a vehicle’s battery from 0 to 100% is 9 hour.

  • Level 3 Chargers: Used only for commercial applications at this time, utilizes 480V (DC) power access to provide a range of 50 to 200+ miles per 30 minutes of charging.
